An Apache™ Hadoop® Cluster When You Need One, An Efficient Workstation When You Don't

Introducing the new Limulus D™ -- an expansion of the Limulus personal supercomputing appliance line. Using the Intel Xeon® D system on a chip (SoC), the new Limulus D offers unprecedented computational power ready to run next to your desk. Designed and built in the Limulus™ tradition, the new Limulus D desk side supercomputing appliance extends the turnkey, high performance, low noise, and power experience to new levels.

The compact Limulus D model 800 offers 32 Xeon cores (4 processors/8 cores per processor) and 256 GB of ECC total memory. Fast SSD storage starts at 6 TB (2TB for host node, 4TB for HDFS) and can expanded to up 12 B. The Limulus D models have full 10 GbE connectivity through out the cluster. A fully populated desk-side tower case provides one head node (with one available PCIe slot) and six CPU worker nodes and a redundant power supply (two wall plugs). All nodes are removable. Each Limulus D Apache Hadoop big data appliance workstation comes with Hortonworks™ Data Platform 2.x (HDP) fully installed. In addition, the quiet and cool desk-side workstation includes the Apache Ambari GUI for Hadoop administration. Each Limulus node uses a mini-ITX motherboard that can be easily removed from he main case.

"Day One, Ready To Run" Turn-key Powerhouse With Support

Each Limulus D comes with a fully installed Linux OS and Hortonworks HDP 2.x. Apache Hadoop software. The system is ready for use on first "power-up." There is no other configuration needed other than user/site customization. All Linux software is fully open source (SRPMS available), integrated, and upgradable (via YUM/RPM). Each system comes with on-board basic documentation which is supplemented by an on-line manual. The fully configured system includes:

  • Node management with pdsh and whatsup
  • Includes simple node power control commands
  • Node log management and replication using rsyslog
  • Automatic ssh key generation and propagation of users accounts on nodes
  • NAT configured on nodes for full LAN/Internet access
  • Environment Modules are automatic preserved (or cleared) across node logins
  • Email from nodes, used by scheduler
  • Complete Apache Hadoop installation
  • Integrated Ambari Apache Hadoop management GUI

A full year of Return to Depot hardware and 90 day software support is included with each system. Additional software support is available.

The basic support package includes 90 days of private access to the Basement Supercomputing Question and Answer page. In addition, one live phone call/incident is included as part of the 90-day support package. Hardware issues and deeper problems are handled via phone and email support. Additional 9-month and 12-month support packages are also available. These include continued access to the Question and Answer page and two live phone call/incidents. The basic support package covers cluster software and operating system issues but does not include Hortonworks HDP support.
